August 2006 Outreach

AUGUST 2006: FOA sent a medical team and supplies to Yaounde, Cameroon and sponsored doctors and nurses to treat approximately 150 patients daily for five consecutive days.

The outreach involved:

  • A medical team including volunteer doctors and nurses from the San Francisco Bay Area, who donated time, money and skills and travelled to Yaounde, Cameroon.
  • Our medical team collaborated with 12 local doctors, nurses, medical students, and paramedics in Yaounde to consult with an average of 150 people a day.
  • Each day, over 300 people were educated on sanitation, nutrition, preventive healthcare, early detection and management of ailments such as diabetes, hypertension, HIV/AIDS, and malaria.
  • The medical team dispensed basic medicines and reading glasses valued at $40,000 to over 750 people and donated the surplus supplies to 3 local clinics.
