Outreaches

Cameroon 2006 – FOA sent a medical team from the US, along with medical supplies, to Yaounde, Cameroon. Our sponsored doctors and nurses treated approximately 150 patients daily for five (5) consecutive days. Each day, over 300 people received education on sanitation, nutrition, preventive healthcare, early detection and management of ailments such as diabetes, hypertension, HIV/AIDS, and malaria. The US and local medical team dispensed basic medicines and reading glasses valued at $40,000 to over 750 people and donated surplus supplies to three (3) local clinics.

Cameroon 2007 – FOA assembled a 40-foot container of medical equipment and supplies valued at over $100,000 USD and shipped the container to Cameroon. We followed up with a medical team of doctors and nurses in Ebolowa, Cameroon and distributed the shipped medical equipment and supplies to eight (8) hospitals and clinics.

Cameroon 2009 – FOA sponsored Cameroon Youth for Jesus (CYJ) to organize a Medical Outreach at Kribi, Cameroon. CYJ partnered with an organization known as Health for the Ocean Division to conduct free vaccinations and free HIV/AIDS screenings.

Ethiopia 2010 – FOA’s medical team from the US traveled to Bahir Dar, Ethiopia. Our team partnered with Smile Train to perform life transforming cleft lip, goiter, and prolapse surgical procedures for various villagers. During the one-week trip, the medical team also conducted health education seminars with particular emphasis on preventable diseases and proper management of chronic diseases.

Ghana 2012 – FOA’s medical team conducted a medical missions trip to Oyarefa, Accra, Ghana to conduct a one-week health campaign and leadership training. The FOA medical team partnered with local doctors, nurses and other health workers to raise awareness on preventable diseases including Hypertension, Diabetes, HIV Aids, and Malaria. The team also attended to other health needs including, Hepatitis B, Nutrition, Wound Care and Sanitation.

Nigeria/Ghana 2013 – In July 2013, FOA sent two teams to the mission field. The first team went to Irrua, Nigeria and the second team went to Prampram, Ghana. The teams conducted medical and evangelistic outreaches similar to our previous ones in other African countries. Our teams screened and provided first aid for hundreds of patients and referred many people to the local hospitals for follow up and long term care.

Ebola Campaign 2014 – FOA raised and sent funds to three organizations, namely Last Mile Health, Well-Body Alliance, Street Child at the forefront combating the EBOLA epidemic and taking care of orphans in the affected countries.

Kenya 2015  – FOA sent a medical team to Ngando, a suburb of Nairobi, Kenya to partner with local churches and health-workers to conduct a one week medical campaign.  Each day, 100 to 300 people were educated on sanitation, nutrition, preventive healthcare, early detection and management of ailments such as diabetes, hypertension, HIV/AIDS, and malaria; and the medical team dispensed basic medicines and reading glasses  to people. FOA donated the surplus supplies to a local clinic.

Tanzania 2016 – FOA was joined by the Kenyan medical team to conduct a one week free medical outreach in using our typical format in Tanga, Malawi.  In Tanzania, like previous locations, there were so many patients we only handle a fraction of the people per day and have the rest return the following day. FOA educated the attendants on sanitation, nutrition, preventive healthcare, early detection and management of ailments such as diabetes, hypertension, HIV/AIDS, and malaria; and the medical team dispensed basic medicines and reading glasses. FOA donated the surplus supplies to the main local hospital.

Malawi 2017 – FOA sent a team of 7 to partner with local healthcare professionals in Mangochi, Malawi to conduct a similar health outreach.  Similar to other outreaches the turnout was more than our team could attend to. FOA provided education on sanitation, nutrition, preventive healthcare, early detection and management of ailments such as diabetes, hypertension, HIV/AIDS, and malaria; and the medical team dispensed basic medicines and reading glasses and donated the surplus supplies to the local clinic that hosted the Health Fair.

Ethiopia/Liberia 2018 – FOA will send two medical teams to two countries in 2018. In October, the first team will leave for Ethiopia and in November the second team will leave for Liberia. Both teams will partner with local establishments and local health professional to conduct one week each of health campaigns to screen patients and provide first aid for various health conditions. FOA is still in the process of recruiting health professionals and raising funds to purchase medical supplies for these outreaches. There will be a Walk-A-Thon fundraiser on August 25th at Lake Merritt in Oakland, California. All are welcome to join in the fun activities in support of a worthy cause.
